750th Palio di Asti Date Set With Italy Tourist Bookings Already Underway
The most dramatic pre-race event will be the evening of May 24
The date has been set for the 750th Palio di Asti in Piedmonte along with the calendar of the pre-race events.
The Palio di Asti will take place on September 7. However, race aside, according to the Italian news agency ANSA, some of the most dramatic events will take place next month.
On May 4, at 3 pm, it will be the turn of the Flag-waving of the Saint and on the evening of May 5, a fireworks display in honor of San Secondo, a moment eagerly awaited and loved by all citizens.
On the morning of May 6, the Palio will be offered at the Collegiate Church of San Secondo and on May 7, for the entire day, the historic center will host the traditional Carolingian Fair, a market of medieval origins that has its roots in the Carolingian era, with stalls.
On May 10, at 8:30 pm, in Piazza Alfieri, it will be the turn of the Flag-wavers' Palio.
The most evocative will be the evening of May 24, with the extraordinary procession of over a thousand figures in medieval costume through the streets of the city.
