Sicily Tourism Industry On The Rebound After Years Of Decline
Number of tourism related businesses nearly triple on Sicily in 2024
Nearly 2,000 new tourism related businesses opened on Sicily in 2024, a rebound from the 772 opened in 2023.
The tripling in openings still was not enough to offset the amount of business closings. However, it does represent some potential path of improvement for the rebound of tourism on the Italian island.
Sicily has become more of a trendy destination for travelers around the world as many different travel publications have focused on vacationing on the island. Although, a lack of tourism infrastructure still holds back the economic potential of tourism on Sicily.
While tourist companies are somewhat optimistic for 2025, overall the economic development for businesses on the island still looks glum.
“Unfortunately,” Assoesercenti Research Center President Salvo Politino told the Italian news agency ANSA, “the nightmare of closure for Sicilian companies has come true.”
