Tourists Are Rushing To This Part Of Italy Pushing Airport Traffic To Record Levels
The airport is expecting 900,000 passengers this month!
Call it the White Lotus effect, but travel to this island region in Italy is booming this year with airport traffic already topping 2.3 million travelers over the last four months.
The latest numbers from the Palermo's Falcone Borsellino International Airport owner show that 815,545 travellers passed through the airport in April, a 3.06 percent increase over April 2024 (791,308). Meanwhile, the number of flights at the airport also increased 1.36 percent during the same month (5,526 versus 5,452 in April 2024).
About 26 percent, or 277,000 travelers, were from international markets during the month. United Airlines announced that it will start a seasonal nonstop flight to Palermo from Newark Liberty Airport starting on May 22.
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, “traffic estimates indicate that approximately 900,000 passengers are expected in May.”
